Muroiwa Cave

Muroiwa Cave

The “Muroiwa-do” was a quarry from which rocks were carried out from the Edo period (1603-1868) until 1954.
This is one of the only places where you can take a tour of a quarry that has been frozen in time.
The stones quarried here were called Izu stones, and they were favored and frequently used for the construction of buildings, such as Edo castle and stone storehouses.

There is electricity in the cave, and the lights come on at 8:30 am and turn off at 5:00 pm.
When the electricity turns off, the inside of the cave gets dark, so for your safety, please do not enter it after 4:30 pm.
