Michinoeki (Roadside Station) Kaikoku Shimoda Minato

Michinoeki (Roadside Station) Kaikoku Shimoda Minato” was named so because of its history; this was the first port opened for foreign ships when Japan ended its long policy of seclusion during the Edo era.
In the facility, in addition to a lot of tourist information that can be collected, there are restaurants where you can enjoy the local Shimoda products and shops offering products harvested from local mountains and the sea.
The “Harbor Museum” introduces the history of Shimoda which was developed as a port-town representing the opening of Japan, presenting precious images and precisely produced models.
The annexed “Kaziki Museum” introduces the annual international marlin fishing event held in Shimoda, and a full-size replica of a marlin is breathtakingly powerful.
