Shirahama Jinja Shrine

“Ikona-hime-no-mikoto Shrine”, also-called “Shirahama Jinja Shrine”, is a time-honored shrine with a history over 2400 years old, and it is the oldest shrine in Izu city.
Five gods are enshrined there, named “Ikona-hime-no-mikoto”, in the center, and “Mishima Daimyojin”, “Mime-no-okami”, “Wakamiya-no-okami” and “Tsurugi-no-miko”.
The main god, “Ikona-hime-no-mikoto”, is regarded as the wife of “Mishima Daimyojin”, and she is believed to be the goddess of love, wisdom and beauty.
Among the gods enshrined here, the leading “Mishima Daimyojin” is the same god as the god that is enshrined in the Mishima Taisha Shrine, which is the biggest shrine in Izu city and thus called “the number one shrine in Izu”.
The three minor gods “Mime”, “Wakamiya”, and “Tsurugi-no-miko” are believed to be the attendants of “Mishima Daimyojin”.
In the precincts there is a 2000-year-old giant tree, and Shirahama coast, famous for its white sandy coast, lays spread out behind the shrine.
