Saijo-ji Temple

This temple is known for its legend of the tengu (the long-nosed goblin)

Saijo-ji Temple has a legend related to tengu.
At the time of the construction of Saijo-ji Temple, Doryo, who was a disciple of Zen master Ryoan Emyo, rushed to him and completed a large project in about a year that demonstrated his mysterious powers (supernatural powers).
It is reported that after the death of Zen master Ryoan Emyo, he was determined to protect this temple and relieve the local people, so he became a tengu.
Doryo-son, the man who became a tengu, is the symbol of this temple, and statues of tengu are enshrined here and there.
Tengu are believed to give happiness to a couple because they serve their role when both a left half and a right half are together, and taka-geta, the footwear of tengu, adorn this temple.
