Komoike Park

Komoike Park

The Komo-ike Park is located about 300 meters eastward from the south exit of JR Mishima Station, to the north of Shirataki Park.
The spring water from Komo-ike pond in the park is the source for Sakuragawa River, which flows through the city.
There are several different stories about the origin of the park's name, but it is usually said that it was named "Makomo (perennial grass)" because it was a swampy area with perennial grass, makomo.
Since the Taisho era, houses have been densely built around each other, and after the World War II, housing developments further advanced.
Hence, most of the original wetlands have disappeared, and only the Komo-ike pond and Kagami-ike pond remain as water springs.
Although the spring water in Kagami-ike pond dried up.
The Komo-ike pond became a place known for relaxation when a promenade with benches was constructed in 1983.
Visitors enjoy watching fish such as Abrahaya (Rhynchocypris logowskii steindachneri) and Oikawa (freshwater minnow), and kingfishers that is the designated city bird.
