Toki-no-Kane Bell (Hour Bell)

Toki-no-Kane Bell (Hour Bell)

A hour bell called "Toki-no-Kane" in the precincts of Mitsuishi Shrine located along the Genbe River is considered to be one of the top eight scenes in Mishima, and it has been popular among local people and travelers since the Edo period.
It was initially built during the Kan-ei period (1624~1643), and then it was re-casted several times.
People in Mishima-shuku knew what time it was from the sound of this bell.
However, the bell was confiscated during the World War II.
The current bell was built by volunteers in the postwar period.
