Calling All Sumo Fans! Now Accepting Entries for the Katsuragi City Wanpaku Sumo Tournament!

We are now accepting applications to participate in the “Katsuragi City Wanpaku Sumo Tournament,” which will be held on Saturday, July 5, 2025.

Top performers in each category will be invited to “SUMO EXPO 2025,” held at the Osaka-Kansai Expo venue on Monday, August 4!
They will also have the chance to participate in a sumo tournament (tentative title) on the same day.

We look forward to receiving many applications!

Eligibility

① Wanpaku Sumo Division

　Elementary and junior high school students who live in, attend school in, or are part of any organization in Katsuragi City.

　* Advance registration required

② Sumo Experience Division

　Children below elementary school age (no residency requirement).

　* No registration required – join on the day!

Participant Quota

No limit on the number of participants.

We welcome as many applicants as possible!

Competition Format

All categories will follow an individual knockout tournament format.

* Note: The format may change depending on the number of participants.

・ower Grade Division (Grades 1–3)

・Upper Grade Division (Grades 4–6)

・Junior High Division (newly introduced)

Top 3 participants in each category will receive awards.

Participation Gift

All participants will receive a gift and a commemorative item.

Other Information

① Please come dressed in athletic clothing.

② There is no parking at the venue. If you are coming by car, please use the parking lot at the Katsuragi City Hall Taima Office.

③ Insurance will be provided by the organizers to cover injuries during matches. First aid will be administered, but organizers are not responsible beyond that.

④ Top winners in each category will be invited to “SUMO EXPO 2025” at the Osaka-Kansai Expo venue on August 4 (Mon), and will also gain the right to compete in a sumo tournament (tentative title) held on the same day.

⑤ All matches are open-weight and mixed-gender, with no classification by grade or weight within divisions.

About the Sumo Experience

An opportunity for preschool-aged children (no residency requirement) to try sumo.

Former amateur and student sumo wrestlers will gently guide participants.

No prior experience is needed—everyone is welcome!

Come try sumo on a full-sized professional ring!
