Mishima Baikamo Pond

Mishima Baikamo Pond

In the 1990s, citizens took initiatives to promote environmental improvement activities, and "Mishima Baikano Pond" was built with the aim of restoring and nurturing the Japanese Water-crowfoot (Mishima Baikamo).
It temporarily disappeared from the city because of a decrease in the amount of water and deterioration of the water quality in the river flowing through Mishima city.
The Japanese Water-crowfoot (Mishima Baikamo) makes small white flowers look like plum blossoms all year round, and in particular, May through September is the best season.
In the 1920's, a botanist discovered it in Kohama pond in Rakujuen Park, and it was named "Mishima Baikamo".
It is said to be a barometer of water quality because it grows only in sunny, cold and clean flowing water.
