Dairyuji Temple

The Dairyuji Temple is a Zen temple that is famous for daruma dolls and the dodan-tsutsuji, a flowering plant native to Japan.
The temple is also known for its "Daruma Kannon" ceremony in which a "great teacher daruma seated figure" of 5 meters is installed on the temple grounds, and every year in mid-January, daruma dolls with both eyes painted in are burned in an offering of "daruma kuyo" (large burning of daruma dolls).
Also, as a famous place for dodan-tsutsuji blossoms, approximately 1,200 of the plants can be found in the garden and on the hill behind the temple. They go into full bloom each year in mid-April.
