Munakata Taisha Nakatsu-gu

This is one of the branch shrines of Munakata Taisha, the shrine that enshrines the three Munakata Goddesses.
It is said the Milky Way was created within these precincts, and there is a Kengyu (Altair) hall and a Orihime (Vega) hall; thus, the shrine is also known as the “birthplace of the Tanabata legend”.,br> The “Tanabata” is a Japanese festival celebrates the meeting of the deities Orihime and Kengyu.
The Nakatsumiya Tanabata Festival, which is one of the shrine’s rituals, is held on August 7th every year, and its origin dates back to the Kamakura period (1185–1333).
