Shoboji Temple

Shoboji Temple is one of the three head temples of the Soto sect of Zen Buddhism.
The temple’s main gate, main hall, and kuri (a building typically used as a kitchen by monks) have been nationally designated as Important Cultural Property.
The roof of the main hall is known as the largest thatched roof in Japan.
Visitors can enjoy shojin-ryori (a type of Japanese cuisine for Buddhist monks) (reservation required) or try out Zen meditation.
