Yusanji Temple

Iozan Yakuoin Yusan-ji Temple is one of three Enshu Sanzan Temples.
In 701, Gyoki Daitoku founded the temple to pray for a state of perfect health of the whole nation.
It is believed that when Empress Koken had her ailing eyes, her illness disappeared soon after she washed her eyes at “Ruri-no-Taki Waterfall” on the precincts.
Since then, the temple has been worshiped by people as a temple to cure eye problems for the protection of eyes.
A guardian god of the mountain Gunzenbo-daigongen, who is in the shape of Tengu, is also a god of healthy feet and has the power to cure diseases of legs.
The temple has various national important cultural properties: “Hondo-nai Yakushi Nyorai Zushi” donated by Yoshimoto Imagawa, “Sanju- no-To (Triplet Tower), one of the three famous towers built in the Azuchi Momoyama period (1573 to 1600), "Sanmon Gate (temple gate)" that was used to be Ote-mon Gate (main gate) of Kakegawa-jo Castle.
Prefecture-designated important cultural properties are "Yakushi-hondo Main Hall," "Shoin (formal reception room)," and "Hojo (Abbot's quarters)".
"Mitama-sugi Cedar Tree" is a prefecture-designated natural monument.
You can feel time-honored Yusan-ji Tempe, walking around the precincts.
The most famous summer feature of the temple is the “Enshu Sanzan Wind-Bell Festival.”
Many tourists come to the festival from far away.
Wind bells with Nambu ironware are hung under the eaves of Yakushi-do Tower, and they play unique and clear sounds.
Yusan-ji Temple is famous for its autumn foliage.
In autumn, the temple gate and the path to the temple are surrounded by beautifully colored maple leaves.
Please enjoy a time of rest and relaxation.
