Musashino-Jindaiji-Gama

Musashino-Jindaiji-Gama, located in front of Jindaiji Temple, is a ceramics shop established in 1957, where you can experience pottery making, and buy clay bells, Japanese pottery and porcelain items.
A clay bell is an earthen bell made by firing clay.
The clay bell sold at Jindaiji is made in this shop.
The following courses are available for the pottery making experience, so you can enjoy making original pottery.

Ceramics experience course (1)

"Raku Ware Course"
First, choose from over 100 types of unglazed pottery your favorite one to paint.
All paints and brushes are available for you to experience them.
Once the painting has been completed, the pottery is temporarily kept by the shop, and after the staff has applied the glaze, it is fired in the kiln at approximately 1000 °C.
It takes about 20 minutes to fire, so you can take it home.
Please note that Raku ware is inferior in strength compared to ordinary pottery, so please handle it carefully.

"Honyaki Course"
As in the "Raku Ware Course", you can choose from over 100 types of unglazed pottery your favorite one to paint.
Once the painting has been completed, the pottery is temporarily kept by the shop, and after the staff has applied the glaze, it is fired in the kiln at approximately 1250 °C for 16 hours.
In total, it takes about a week from the moment it is received by the shop to complete the firing process.

Ceramics experience course (2)

"Hands-on Course"
You can make your own original pottery from clay whatever shape you want.
There are two types of "Hands-on Course": the “Color Glaze Course", which is completed in one visit, and the “Painting Course", which is completed in two visits.

In the “Color Glaze Course”, after you finish molding the clay, you can choose your favorite glaze from 7 different types of color glaze. The staff will do the firing and the glazing of the pottery with the color glaze of your choosing.
It takes about 4 weeks to complete.

In the “Painting Course”, after you finish molding the clay, the pottery will be left at the shop for about 3 weeks for the staff to dry and fire.
Once the unglazed pottery is completed, you will have to visit the shop again to paint it.
The painted pottery will be stored again in the shop for it to be fired, it takes about a week to be completed.

The completed works for both the “Honyaki Course” and the “Hands-on Course” can be handed over directly by visiting the shop again, or shipped directly to you. (Shipping fee: 1,000 yen in Tokyo, 1,100 yen in nearby prefectures)
