Yoshida Tainai Lava Tree Molds (Inside is not open to the public)

Lava flows from Mt. Fuji eruptions burned tree trunks and left cavities that are called lava tree molds.
There are countless such molds at the foot of Mt. Fuji, and the ones that resemble the interior of the human womb are called Gotainai and are sacred sites where followers of Mt. Fuji worship purified themselves by making a round of such molds (tainai-meguri) before they ascended Mt. Fuji.
The total length is 61 meters.
Enshrined in the innermost area is Konohanasakuya-hime, the guardian deity of Mt. Fuji, and is now open to the public only once a year during the Tainai Festival.
