Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen-jinja Shrine

This is one of the Fuji Sengen-jinja shrines, which, as its name suggests, is dedicated to the worship of Mt. Fuji and is located in the vast Suwa Forest with the towering Mt. Fuji behind it.
The shrine is said to have originated when Yamatotakeru no Mikoto, a representative hero of ancient Japanese legends, designated Mt. Fuji as a place to worship from afar and is closely associated with Mt. Fuji worship that prospered at the northern entrance to Mt. Fuji after the early modern period.
It is also the starting point of the Yoshidaguchi Climbing Trail.
The main shrine, west shrine, and east shrine are nationally designated important cultural properties.
