Yamamiya Sengen-jinja Shrine

This is said to have been founded by Yamatotakeru no Mikoto, one of the most famous heroes of ancient Japanese legends, and is the former site of Sengentaisha Shrine.
It is presumed that this special configuration, in which only a place to worship the mountain from afar and no other buildings are built, retains the form of the ancient Mt. Fuji ritual of worshiping the mountain itself to quell its eruptions.

*The Yamamiya Sengen-jinja Shrine Tourist Information Center is open only on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays (10:00am to 3:00pm).
