Tanzan Jinja Shrine

Tanzan Jinja Shrine’s main hall and prayer hall are ornate structures painted in vermillion.
The shrine also has a distinctive, thirteen-story, wooden pagoda.
This shrine worships Fujiwara-no-Kamatari, and its name, “tanzan,” which is composed of Chinese characters meaning “discuss” and “mountain,” derives from an episode in which Fujiwara-no-Kamatari had a confidential talk with Emperor Tenji in this mountain.
Though famous for its autumnal foliage, this shrine is also a perfect spot for enjoying the beauty of nature throughout the year.
