Ukimido (Mangetsu-ji Temple)

A temple with the appearance of floating on Lake Biwa, Ukimido is famous for the view of “wild geese returning home at Katata,” which is a scenic view traditionally counted as one of the Eight Views of Omi (Shiga prefecture, present day).
The temple is believed to have been originally built to pray for safety on the waters of Lake Biwa.
The temple is popular for its beautiful views of sunrise.
