Kozenji Temple

Kozen-ji is a famous temple standing on Komagane-kogen highland.
It was founded in 860 AD by the renowned priest Honjo Shonin and is associated with the legend of Hayataro the Dog.
It is one of Nagano prefecture’s largest temples and the most widely worshipped among the many Buddhist prayer places in southern Nagano.
The temple’s garden is a nationally designated place of scenic beauty, and the weeping cherry tree, which blooms in late April, also attracts many visitors.
