Tokko-no-Yu

Tokko-no-yu is the most famous onsen facility of Shuzenji Onsen hotsprings, and it is Izu’s oldest onsen facility.
According to legend, the renowned priest Kukai was touched by the sight of a boy bathing his sick father in Katsura River, so he struck a rock in the river with a tokko (a mallet-like, Buddhist altar fitting) and caused spring water to flow out.
Tokko-no-yu is lit up at night, so visitors on a night stroll can see its reflection on Katsura River as they walk by.
