Joren Falls

Joren Falls

Joren Falls is a famous waterfall with beautiful, columnar jointing on the rocks.
With a fall of 25 meters and a 15 meter-deep basin, this waterfall is one of the largest in Izu Peninsula and one of “Japan’s Top 100 Waterfalls” in a listing published by the Ministry of the Environment.
This waterfall appears in the lyrics of the hit song “Amagigoe,” and a monument inscribed with the song’s lyrics stands beside the waterfall’s basin.
Near the waterfall are souvenir shops selling wasabi and a place to fish trout out of the natural stream.
Along the stream also spread “tatamiishi (rock matting) style wasabi paddies,” which have been registered as a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System.
