Hokuto City Archaeological Museum

The Hokuto City Archaeological Museum exhibits archaeological material and artifacts excavated from places such as the Yato Castle Trace and the Kinsei Ruins, which are both National Historic Sites of Japan.
During the Jomon period, Mt. Yatsugatake and the surrounding Central Highland flourished because it had mines for obsidian, which was a material for stoneware.
Tombs and sites for religious rites from the period have been discovered at the Kinsei Ruins.
Near the archaeological museum is also the trace of Yato Castle, where lived Minamoto-no-Kiyomitsu, grandson of Minamoto-no-Yoshimitsu, father of the Kai-Genji line of the Minamoto clan.
(It takes about five minutes by foot to Yato Castle Trace; about 15 minutes by foot Kinsei Ruins.)
