Iwase Pothole

There are a lot of large and small holes in the rocks in the Ishizawa River (Takase River / Tashiro River) are seen in the bedrock where is about 300 meter away from the Iwase Bridge.
These holes are called “glacial potholes or giant’s kettle”; it is a typically large and cylindrical pothole drilled in solid rock underlying a glacier either by water descending down a deep Moulin or by gravel rotating in the bed of sub-glacial melt-water stream.
The place where the flowing water falls into the big hole is called “Iwase-no-taki waterfall” and it is very popular.
