Hirugashima Park

After his father lost in the Heiji Rebellion, Minamoto-no-Yoritomo was exiled to Hirugashima, Izu.
He spent a period of 20 years here until he rose in arms at the age of 34.
During this period, Yoritomo met and wedded Hojo Masako, a daughter of a powerful family of the Izu region.
The place of exile has been turned into Hirugashima Park, and it has a “statue of the couple of Hirugashima” depicting Yoritomo and Masako.
The “former Ueno family residence,” a prefecture-designated tangible cultural asset, is used here as a folk history museum of the City.
Within the park also stands “Hirugashima Tea House,” a free resting facility.
