Kinoshita Mokutaro Memorial Hall

Kinoshita Mokutaro was a medical doctor from Ito City who was also talented in literature and art.
He worked as a doctor under his real name, Ota Masao, and discovered a disease that infected the face, which is still named nevus of Ota.
It is said that he originally wanted to pursue a career solely in literature, but due to his father's wish and the encouragement of his good friend, Mori Ogai, he ended up pursuing a career in medicine.
On the side, he also worked on creating poems, plays, novels, and short stories, leaving behind countless literature.
These works, together with the pair of glasses and fountain pen he used lovingly, are showcased at the house he was born at, a 5 minutes walk from Ito Station.
The house, which was built in 1907, is the oldest wooden structure in Ito City and is listed as one of Japan's Registered Tangible Cultural Property, preserving the architectural style of traditional Japanese merchant townhouses.
