Empukuji Temple
This is an ancient temple of the Shingon-risshu sect with the sango—mountain name—Ryugesan.
According to the temple legend, it was founded by Gyoki during the Tenpyo-shoho era (749–757), but the history of the temple since its foundation is not known.
The main hall is said to have been built in the Kamakura era and has been designated as an important cultural asset.
The exterior has an austere and refined atmosphere, and inside the main hall is enshrined a wooden eleven-faced Kannon statue, said to have been created during the Heian era.
