The Head Temple Sojiji Soin (ancestor temple)
This is the ancestor temple of Sojiji, the head temple of the Soto sect of Zen Buddhism, and it has a history of about seven hundred years.
The head temple was relocated from Ishikawa to Tsurumi-ku, Yokohama city after a fire that devastated it in the Meiji period (1868-1912).
The ancestor temple has, however, been re-erected here to transmit to the present the solemnity of the time of its first opening.
