Yanagi-no-Gosho Remains

Since ancient times, the area of terraces stretching from the foot of the Takadate hill to the Kitakami river is believed to be the site of the residences of Fujiwara no Kiyohira and Motohira.

Excavations revealing moats, walls, ponds, and wells have uncovered white porcelain jars from China, large ceramic jars from the Tokai region, a variety of wooden products and mass-produced potteries ('kawarake') of outstanding quality and quantity among 12th century Hiraizumi sites.

The site is assumed to have been the government office Hiraizumi-kan as seen in the Japanese historical chronicle (Azuma Kagami).
It has been open to the public since April 2010.
