Mt. Kinpo

Mt. Kinpo is a familiar sight to the people of Kumamoto, being visible from virtually everywhere in the city.
The mountain area is home to some famous locations, such as 'Tougenochaya', which featured in Natsume Sōseki's novel 'Kusamakura', as well as the 'Reigando Cave' where Miyamoto Musashi wrote The Book of Five Rings.
The mountain is a well known for the amount of hiking & mountain climbing enthusiasts it attracts.
The sights from the summit of this 665m tall mountain are breathtaking, granting a commanding view over not just Kumamoto, but the Ariake Sea, Unzen in Nagasaki Prefecture, Mt. Aso, Kyushusanchi, the Amakusa Islands and more.
The view there at night is also greatly renowned.
