Takidanji Temple

This is a Buddhist temple of the Shingon Sect’s Chiyama school, which was built in the first year of the reign of Emperor Eiwa (1375).
It boasts a number of remaining ancient buildings, such as the guardian hall, as well as many cultural assets, such as the national treasure carved Chinese chime, a number of historical documents and Buddhist statues designated as important by Fukui Prefecture.
In addition, the splendid pond garden in the “artificial hill” style behind the main hall is designated as a national scenic spot, showing visitors the changing atmospheres of the four seasons, with the trees protected with ropes to prevent them breaking in the snow.
