Kitayama Park Iris Garden

In a park with abundant nature against the backdrop of Hachikokuyama Park, which is also known as “Totoro’s Forest,” a scenic spot boasting some 100,000 irises of 8,000 rootstocks of about 600 varieties in full bloom has been selected as one of the 100 New Famous Views of Tokyo.
In particular, “Kitayama Maiden,” the symbol of the iris garden, is a precious Japanese iris (Iris ensata) that cannot be seen anywhere else.
During the “Higashimurayama Iris Festival,” held in June every year to coincide with the flowering, in addition to various events such as night illumination and flower-picking girls, as well as instrumental music by hayashi performers, local vegetables are sold and various snack bars are open and the entire place is bustling with tourists. In addition, you can enjoy beautiful flowers in each season, such as cherry blossoms in spring, lotuses in summer, and red spider lilies (Lycoris radiata) in autumn.
It is also recommended as a birdwatching spot, since many wild birds such as kingfishers gather around the pond.
