Hachikokuyama Taiken no Sato

Under the theme of “Relations between people and nature in the Sayama Hills,” this facility offers exhibits and various hands-on experiences about the flora and fauna, environment, archeological sites, and lifestyles around Hachikokuyama Park. It also maintains and exhibits a huge number of excavated articles dug up from the ruins in Higashimurayama City, and you can also see up close the items excavated from the Shimoyakebe Ruins and designated national important cultural assets in 2020 (Reiwa 2).
In the “little experience” that you can have whenever you come, you can experience seasonal things such as acorns and leaf work every month.
For those who want to take up the challenge of a full-fledged experience, the “Full-fledged Experience” offers activities such as making Jomon pottery, leather work, and dyeing with natural vegetable dyes, as well as birdwatching and plant observation sessions on a regular basis.
At present, it is maintained as the “Shimoyakebe Ruins Hakkennomori (Discovery Forest)” and can be reached on foot from the Shimoyakebe Ruins, which has been selected as one of the 100 historical parks in Japan, and Kitayama Park, which is a scenic spot for Japanese irises.
