Hiishidate-ato

At the southern end of the mouth of the Ishizaki River (Hayakawa River), which divides the village of Ishizaki in half, there is a promontory with a shrine and lighthouse.
On top of this promontory you will find the remains of the Hiishidate-ato.
Legend has it that this pavilion, built by General Atsuya Ukon Shigemasa, fell at the Battle of Koshamain in 1457, and, after being killed, Shigemasa sank into the rapids beneath the pavilion, transformed into a large shark, and became lord of the Hayakawa River.
