Muroran Folklore Museum (Tontenkan)

There are exhibitions showing various perspectives of the history and culture of Muroran, which has prospered as a natural port in Hokkaido since ancient times.
It is an educational facility equivalent to a museum adjacent to the nationally designated historic site "Morioka Jinya Ruins of the Southern Ezochi Clan". It contains and exhibits about 22,000 materials, including buried cultural properties.
Amongst these exhibits that show the port town's bustle, are Jomon period pottery, the uniforms and government supplies of Tondenhei that tell the history of pioneering, and the earth-shaped coal stove called 'Tako' that saw the development of the industry. Each of them, including a fishing box, are exhibits that have witnessed the history of Muroran.
The "Ebisu / Daikokuten Statue", a cultural property of the "Charcoal Iron Port" which is certified as a Japanese heritage site, is also on display.
