Nakatonbetsu Limestone Caves in Natural Park

Nakatonbetsu Limestone Caves are composed of limestone that was formed on the seabed 10 million years ago and the caves are now designated as a natural monument of Hokkaido. As the caves are also made of scallop and barnacle fossils, you can find some of them at various points within the cave. The park is also overflowing with nature with plenty of opportunities to see wild animals and plants. Among such sights, you will find the moss phlox in bloom in the park in early June by gunkaniwa [lit. warship rock]. This area is just perfect for enjoying a walk around.
