Museum of History and Folklore

We repurposed the old Kasuga elementary school lecture hall built in 1903 (Nara Prefecture Designated Cultural Property) into a museum.
The combination of Irimoya-zukuri (East Asian hip-and-gable roof) and Tsuma-iri roof architectural styles—typical Japanese architecture in the Meiji period—is very rare for a school building.
The museum displays precious historical materials, such as earthenware and stone tools unearthed from the Oko ruins as well as folk art donated by residents of the village, walking visitors through the history of Yamazoe with easy-to-understand explanations.
