Shimanoyama Tumulus

It is an archetypal keyhole-shaped tumulus that is surrounded by a moat.
The tumulus is the 33d largest one in the country.
No one yet knows who is buried there. But judging from its size, the tumulus is considered to be the imperial tomb of a person on par with an emperor.
Since the sixth year of the Heisei era (1994), full-scale excavations have started. Remains from the fourth century were unearthed in an undisturbed state from burial facilities in the front portion of the tumulus.
