Mizu-jinja Shrine (Japan Heritage)

Katsuragi Shugen – The Land of the Beginning of Shugendo, Protected and Passed Down by the Countryfolk, is a Japan Heritage site established by the Agency for Cultural Affairs in 2020, said to be the locations where En no Gyoja first practiced, and where he buried one of the 28 chapters of the Lotus Sutra at each of 28 sutra mounds.
Mizu-jinja Shrine, located at the summit of Mount Myojin, is the 28th such sutra mound, and is the final location of Katsuragi Shugen, which began in Tomogashima, Wakayama, making Mount Myojin the first Japan Heritage site in Oji.
