Shounji Tensokudo Temple (Dementia Containment Temple)

Tensokudo Hall, located in the precinct of the temple, was built by Tensoku Kozen Wako who entered the temple in 1639 and was from Suo Province (now part of Yamaguchi Prefecture).
It has been said that he listened to the worries of the village people and healed illnesses and diseases of the head with supernatural power, thus this temple has been venerated as being effective against headaches and dementia.
It is still loved by many to this day as a dementia containment temple under the name of Tensoku.
Two twin Japanese cypress trees aged over 300 years are the sacred trees of the temple.
