Amenomiya jinja Shrine

After climbing a long flight of stone steps, you will find the main shrine and worship hall surrounded by a forest of Japanese cedar and cypress trees.
The large sacred nagi (Nageya nagi) tree, about which the Japanese literature scholar Dr. Nobutsuna Sasaki, who once visited the shrine, wrote in his poem, “The large nagi tree that is awed only before the deity of Amenomiya and has been standing there a thousand years,” is considered to be the oldest nagi tree in the Tokai region.
