Taiheizan Eisenji Temple

Tokugawa Ieyasu was defeated in a battle against the Takeda army in 1574 (Tensho 2), and recuperated from his injuries at Eisenji Temple.
Two years later, on his way to war again, he prayed for victory at Eisenji Temple.
Afterward, Ieyasu, who had become the Commander-in-Chief of the Expeditionary Force Against the Barbarians, sent a tanzaku (paper strip) inscribed with the words, “For all under heaven peace and harmony prevailed; disasters and calamities did not occur; misfortunes and rebellions did not arise,” and allowed the Tokugawa family's crest, Mitsuba-aoi, to be used as the temple crest.
