Magome Bunshimura (Meaning Writers' Village)

Around the end of the Taisho era (1912-1926) and the beginning of the Showa era (1926–1989), many writers and artists including Shiro Ozaki, Yasunari Kawabata and Hasui Kawase moved to the Magome district to form an artistic community.
Consequently, it became known as the "Magome Writer's Village".

To get a feeling of how people lived; come walk around the area and visit its historical buildings, museums and memorial hall, close to the artists' former residences.
