Iroha Maru Museum

In 1867, a ship belonging to the Kaientai, the Iroha Maru, sank following a collision off Tomonoura with the Meiko Maru, a ship from the Kishu domain.
Kaientai, originally named the Kameyama Shachu, was founded in Nagasaki in 1865 by Sakamoto Ryoma a Japanese samurai and influential figure of the Bakumatsu during the final years of the Edo period. It was initially funded by the Satsuma Domain amongst other groups and domains.
Sakamoto Ryoma negotiated and won compensation from the Kishu domain.
The Iroha Maru Exhibition Hall features relics of the hull of the ship and a video of diving research.
