Abuto Kannon (Bandai-ji Temple Kannon-do Hall)

The Abuto Kannon is a beautiful vermilion lacquered Kannondo (Goddess of Mercy) built into a rocky cliff at the tip of Cape Abusagi overlooking the Seto Inland Sea on the southern end of Numakuma Peninsula.
A nationally important cultural property it is widely known as a place for prayer for safe childbirth.
It was the subject of an “ukiyoe” by Utagawa Hiroshige (1797 -1858) the last great master of traditional woodblock printing.
