Myoo-in Temple

The Myoo-in Temple is said to have been founded in 807 by Kobo Daishi (774–835), also known as Kukai, a Japanese Buddhist monk, calligrapher, and poet who founded the esoteric Shingon school of Buddhism.
The main hall, rebuilt in the Kamakura period (1185-1333), is one of the oldest eclectic buildings in Japan.
The five-story pagoda, said to be the fifth oldest in Japan, was built and financed by citizens during the Northern and Southern Dynasties.
Both the main hall and the five-story pagoda are the only national treasures in Fukuyama.
