Ota Residence

The Ota Residence was designated as an Important Cultural Property in 1991.
It is a typical merchant house of great historical value, situated on the Seto Inland Sea.
The main building, kitchen and sake cellar have all been preserved, and the entrance has a hanging cedar ball giving the atmosphere of a sake brewery.

The buildings were extended by the Nakamura family in the mid to late Edo period (1603-1868), then subsequently taken over by the Ota shipping business family in the Meiji period (1868-1912).
