Rikugien Gardens

Together with Koishikawa Korakuen Gardens, this site is one of the two major gardens of Tokyo's Edo era.
Yoshiyasu Yanagisawa, an official that served under the 5th shogun, Tokugawa Tsunayoshi, was granted the land and built a villa here along with the beautifully designed gardens.
The name of the gardens is derived from the "six tenets of poetry" found in the "Classic of Poetry," or "Shijing".
This walking-style garden with hills and ponds was modeled after the gardens at Katsura Imperial Villa, and the site itself is a specially designated scenic spot.
