Nezu-Jinja Shrine

This site was the birthplace of the sixth shogun, Tokugawa Ienobu, and Nezu-Jinja Shrine was dedicated to the deity of that birthplace.
The main shrine was built here by the fifth shogun, Tokugawa Tsunayoshi, in 1706.
The fantastic "gongen-zukuri" style main shrine, front shrine, hall of offerings, Karamon gate, romon gate, and sukibei (transparent fences) are all still present there and have been nationally designated as important cultural properties.
The spring season features close to 3,000 azaleas that bloom up around the site.
