Hie-jinja Shrine

The Hie-jinja Shrine was established in the early Kamakura period (1185–1333).
One of the three major Tokyo festivals, the Sanno Festival is held here.
The Shinkosai, 300 meter long, festival procession is held every other year.
People visit the shrine to pray for overall good luck, for safe childbirth and for their children’s 3rd, 5th, and 7th year birthdays*.
* The festival called Shichigosan which is a traditional rite of passage in Japan and cerebrates for boys aged 3 and 5 and girls aged 3 and 7.
