Shibamata Taishakuten (Daikyo-ji Temple)

A cultural asset featuring stunning carvings and a Japanese garden

Founded in 1629 (6th year of the Kan'ei era).
Known since the Edo period as Taishakuten, it is famous among the masses and is said to have the sacred water used for Tora-san's first bath in the movie "It's Tough Being a Man."
The temple also houses the "Sculpture Gallery," which showcases beautifully crafted scenes from the Lotus Sutra, a registered cultural asset of Katsushika District. The Japanese garden "Suikeien" and the "Zuiryu no Matsu" pine tree within the temple grounds are designated cultural assets of Tokyo and are must-sees.
